How do I create and upload a screen shot using Windows XP?

You can make a copy of your screen by holding down the ALT key and pressing the Prt Scr (print screen) key. That key is usually on the upper right side of your keyboard and may also be called "insert". Now you have a copy of active window in your clipboard.

Go to the start button/All Programs/Accessories/Paint.

After the Paint program opens click on Edit/paste.

At this point you could save and post the entire page but I suggest you crop it down a bit to show only the relevant areas and then save and post it. No need for people to see the very top or bottom of your screen. So here is how we will crop it and save it to your computer.

Click on the selection tool right under the Edit button.

With the left mouse button held down, start at the top left of the area you want to keep and drag a box down and to the right. Let go of the button. If you don’t quite like the area selected, hit the Esc button on your keyboard and try again.

When you are satisfied with the area you want to keep, hit Edit/Cut. Now the area you want is on your clipboard so we throw away the rest by clicking on File/New. A message pops up. Click on NO.

Click on Edit /Paste now and see your picture. Now all you have to do is save it.

Click on File/Save as, and go to your Pictures Folder. At the bottom of that window where it says “Save as type” click the dropdown arrow and change file type to JPEG. Give your picture a name. Click Save.

You can now upload your picture to your iHub Photo Gallery, grab the link that it creates for you, and post it in a message.

NOTE:

  • PicPick allows you to easily capture full screen or capture only the active window or capture a selected region of the screen.
